Abstract

Background : Transgender people are one of the groups that are vulnerable to discrimination. Objectives : analyze the factors that influence the experience of discrimination on transgender people in South Sumatra Province. Methods: This study is included in quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were all transgender people in South Sumatra Province, especially those domiciled in Palembang City and Banyuasin Regency. The sampling technique was snowball sampling. The number of respondents collected in this study was 211 respondents. Data analysis techniques in this study included univariate, bivariate and multivariate. Results: Based on the results of the bivariate analysis using the chi-square test, it showed that there were variables related to the experience of discrimination, namely age, age of first becoming a transgender, sexual orientation, education level, income, ownership of health insurance, access to health services for transgender people, HIV status, IMS status, drug use, experience of violence and family support. And based on multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression test prediction model, the most dominant factor in discrimination experience is violence experience, showing PR value > 1 (PR = 7.524; 95% CI: 2.388 - 23.702) the result, it can be interpreted that transgender people who have experienced violence have a 7.5 times risk of experiencing discrimination, after being controlled by variables of access to health services, IMS status, HIV status, health insurance ownership, family support, age of first becoming transgender, drug use, sexual orientation, education, and income. Conclusion: Efforts are needed to protect the rights of transgender groups and provide inclusive services to reduce stigma and discrimination against transgender people.
