Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of lactic acid bacteria on grass silage made of Hymenachne acutigluma and legume Neptunia oleracea Lour. The research was conducted in August of December 2016 in the Laboratory of Animal Feed and Nutrition Program Animal Husbandry and Laboratory Microbiology Fishery Products Program Fishery Products Technology Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study uses a completely randomized design which consists of 3 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment consists of P1 (Silage of Hymenachne acutigluma), P2 (Silage of combination hymenachne acutigluma and Neptunia oleracea Lour), P3 (Silage of Neptunia oleracea Lour). The variable observed were total bacteria, resistance to acids, antibacterial activity and resistance to bile salts. The results showed that treatment significantly (P <0.05) the total bacteria. The P1 treatment P1 of isolate has the high ability of resistance to acids, to bile salts, and also has the high antibacterial activity. The best isolate is in treatment P1 (Silage of Hymenachneacutigluma) which are the high ability resistance to acids, to bile salts, and also having the high antibacterial activity.
