Abstract

Excessive sweat production caused body odor to appear in certain parts of the body, one of which was Staphylococcus aureus. Deodorant lotion was applied to the armpit as a topical antibacterial preparation. Deodorant lotion was prepared with different concentrations of patchouli essential oil of 0%, 5%, 7%, and 10%. The deodorant lotion was tested for physical properties including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, and irritation. Antibacterial activity tests were carried out using the well diffusion method and the research data was processed with SPSS 25. The results of physical property tests showed that deodorants with 0% and 5% concentrations performed better than other concentrations. The antibacterial activity test of deodorant lotion containing patchouli essential oil lotion at 5%, 7%, and 10% showed strong inhibitory response, with the 10% concentration producing the largest inhibition zone of 13.8 mm. Deodorant lotion with 5% concentration was determined as the best formulation based on SPSS 25 analysis of physical properties and bacterial activity tests using normality, homogeneity, one-way ANOVA, and post-hoc duncan tests. The MIC values of pure patchouli essential oil and the best deodorant lotion formulation respectively were 1250 ppm and 625 ppm. The MBC values respectively were 2500 ppm and 1250 ppm. Based on the research results, it was concluded that the higher the concentration of patchouli essential oil, the viscosity, and adhesion decreased, while spreadability and pH increased. The greater the patchouli essential oil composition, the stronger the antibacterial inhibitory power. Kata kunci: deodorant lotion, patchouli essential oil, Staphylococcus aureus, antibacterial
