Abstract
Peatlands are ecosystems that have ecological functions. Ecologically, peatlands have high biodiversity value, hydrological cycles in water storage and release management, and regulation of climate change. This research was conducted on unburned peatland at Sriwijaya University (3o22’17.25”S and 104o65’19.49”E), North Indralaya Regency, South Sumatra Province, which was carried out in December 2024. The method used was the quadrant method with a total of 4 plots (20 x 20 m) or sampling distance between plots of around 40-50 m. The sample plots were divided into 4 sizes, namely for seedlings (2 x 2 m2), stakes (5 x 5 m2), poles (10 x 10 m2), and trees (20 x 20 m2). The data obtained were analyzed using the formulas of density, dominance, frequency, important value index and Shannon-Wiener index. Based on the research results, there were 415 individuals (66 trees, 75 poles, 164 saplings and 110 seedlings) classified into 22 species and 20 families. The Important Value Index (INP) at the tree level was 59.55%, at the pole level was 70.69%, at the sapling level was 91.47% and at the seedling level was 47.38%. The species diversity index at the tree level was classified as moderate with H' = 2,13, at the pole level was classified as moderate with H' = 1,80, at the sapling level was classified as moderate with H' = 1,70, and at the seedling level was classified as moderate with H' = 2,44. On the peat land was found Ceiba pentandra, Acacia mangium, and Psychtria asiatica.
