Abstract

This research assesses the habitat preferences of rehabilitated siamangs (Symphalangus syndactylus) post-release in the Isau-Isau Wildlife Reserve, South Sumatra. Data on Siamang Joni's encounters (99 observation days, September 2024 – February 2025) were combined with vegetation analysis from plot line transects (40 m × 40 m) across three forest types: Primary, Secondary, and Bush. Preferences were calculated using the Neu Index. The Primary forest exhibited the highest tree diversity (21 species; dominant INP Castanopsis acuminatissima 50.96%) and was the most preferred habitat (w=1.20). The Secondary forest (w=0.87) and Bush (w=0.50) were less favored due to lower canopy density and food abundance. Of the 37 plant species utilized, the Moraceae and Myrtaceae families dominated in providing food, sleeping trees, and encounter locations.
