Abstract
Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is a horticultural plant belonging to the Solanaceae family. Red chili has high economic and nutritional value. The nutritional content of red chili plants such as protein, fat, carbohydrates, calcium, vitamins (A and C) make red chili a commodity needed by the community for cooking ingredients. Meanwhile, Aren (Arenga pinnata) is a multipurpose tree that has long been known to produce industrial materials. Almost all physical parts and production of this plant can be utilized and have economic value. This plant can be utilized both in terms of economy and ecology and has good adaptability to various ecosystems. This study was conducted to determine the growth and development of red chili plants shaded by sugar palm trees with a polyculture system, by optimizing the use of sugar palm land so as to utilize space efficiently, both horizontally and vertically. And the diversity of arthropods in red chili plants (Capsicum annuum L.) includes various types of arthropods that act as pests, predators, parasitoids, and decomposers. This study was conducted to obtain information about the diversity of arthropods in red chili plants in sugar palm plantations in Ulak Segulung Village, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. This study was conducted from June to October 2024. Using a purposive random sampling method with 35 polybags of red chili plants arranged vertically. There were 3 traps used in this study, namely sweep net, yellow sticky trap, and light trap. The specimens found were then identified in the Laboratory of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Sriwijaya University. The number of arthropods found in this study was 270 individuals of arthropods divided into 9 orders, 35 families and 47 species. The most commonly found species are Chelonus, Cocinella septempuncata, Ceriagrion auranticum, Ceriagrion glabrum, and Eublema. The diversity index value (H') was obtained 1.94 which indicates that the diversity of arthropods found is included in the low type. The evenness index value (E) was obtained 0.88 which means that the evenness of arthropod species is included in the high category. And the dominance index (D) was obtained 0.16 meaning that the dominance of arthropods in this sugar palm garden is included in the low category. As well as the growth of red chili plants such as plant height and number of leaves relatively increased every week, and fruit growth on red chili plants began to grow in the 14th week until the last week of observation.
