Abstract

Sports achievements in Indonesia are still fluctuate in various sports disciplines. One of which is karate, espicially in Palembang. The dynamics of these achievements are influenced by nutritional intake factor, which is affected by knowledge. Providing nutrition education through podcast media can be one way to improve the knowledge and attitudes of karate athletes. This study aims to determine the effect of nutrition periodization education through podcasts on the knowledge and attitudes of karate athletes in Palembang. This research is a quasi-experimental study with pre-test post-test control group design. Involving 64 karate athletes in Palembang aged 18–22 years. The variables of knowledge and attitude were measured using a questionnaire. The results of statistical tests on the knowledge and attitude variables in both groups obtained a p-value of <0.001 (p<0.05), which means that there is an effect of nutritional periodization education on the knowledge and attitudes of respondents in both the experimental and control groups. The results of the analysis of the differences between the two groups showed that there was a significant difference in the level of knowledge, with a significance value of 0.006 (p<0.05). In the attitude variable, the results obtained also showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, with a p value of <0.001 (p<0.05). The results showed that podcast media in the experimental group had a greater influence on increasing knowledge than e-books in the control group, while e-books in the control group had a greater influence on increasing attitudes than podcast media in the experimental group. Further research is recommended to involve a larger sample size and be conducted over a longer period of time with regular monitoring, so that the effect of the intervention on changes in knowledge and attitudes can be observed more comprehensively.
