Abstract

This study aims to estimate the daily travel distance and home range area of a rehabilitated male siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) named Joni, post-release in the Isau-Isau Wildlife Reserve, South Sumatra. Observations were conducted over 15 days through direct focal follows, supported by secondary data from a ±5-month monitoring period. Joni's average daily path length was 1082.4 ± 437 meters, ranging from 195 to 1852 meters. The longest travel days showed a pattern circling the home range, while the shortest ones were concentrated near the boundaries, indicating possible foraging and exploratory behavior. The home range area, calculated using the Minimum Convex Polygon (MCP) method, covered 42 hectares. These findings suggest that the rehabilitated siamang was able to adapt well to its natural habitat and exhibited active ranging behavior, serving as a positive indicator of post-release success.
