Abstract
Work-related stress is a common condition in many workplaces and can significantly affect employees’ physical and mental health, as well as their productivity. It occurs when job demands exceed an individual’s ability to cope, often leading to fatigue, anxiety, and lower performance. PT. KAI (UPT) Balai Yasa Lahat, as the main railway maintenance center in South Sumatra, operates in a high-demand environment. The nature of the job, which requires precision, discipline, and strict safety standards, makes the work environment potentially stressful. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with work-related stress among employees at PT. KAI (UPT) Balai Yasa Lahat. The research used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 152 employees were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using The Workplace Stress Scale (WSS) and the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ III), and were analyzed using chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression. The results show that most respondents (72.4%) experience moderate levels of work stress, while 27.6% are in the low-stress category. Factors significantly related to stress include age (p = 0.010), years of service (p = 0.003), workload (p = 0.002), and organizational role (p = 0.004). The most dominant factor is workload, with a p-value of 0.041 and an adjusted PR of 2.299 (95% CI: 1.033–5.118). Marital status, task design, organizational culture, career development, and interpersonal relationships show no significant relationship. It is recommended that the company provide stress management training, mental health support, and fair workload distribution to promote a healthier work environment.
