Abstract

Muara Enim Regency is one of the areas with the highest cases of under-five pneumonia in South Sumatra in 2023. Mining activities are thought to increase the risk of under-five pneumonia due to exposure to air pollution. Spatial studies of under-five pneumonia are still limited, even though under-fives are vulnerable due to suboptimal immunity. This study aims to describe the incidence of under-five pneumonia and its influencing factors in Muara Enim Regency in 2024 through a spatial approach that displays the distribution of cases and the relationship between regions to support more targeted health interventions. This study is an ecological study with a descriptive approach using QGIS application-based spatial analysis with overlay and buffering methods. The data used is secondary data obtained from the Muara Enim District Health Office and the ESDM One Map Indonesia website. The results showed that areas with a high percentage of under-five pneumonia (≥ 4%) were Ujan Mas (8.6%) and Beringin (4.4%) health centers. Pneumonia among children under five was more prevalent among males (60.5%) than females (39.5%). Areas with high pneumonia such as Ujan Mas and Beringin also had a high percentage of LBW (≥2.5%), at 3.76% and 4.29% respectively. There were two areas with low exclusive breastfeeding coverage, Tebat Agung (59%) and Kelekar (57.3%), both of which fell into the moderate pneumonia category. The coverage of PHBS households in Kelekar (68%) and Sukarami (58%) is still low and falls into the moderate pneumonia category. In addition, areas with low, medium, and high pneumonia are still not fully covered by puskesmas services within a 5 km radius. Improved monitoring of under-fives, nutrition education, PHBS, and expansion of health services are needed to reduce under-five pneumonia.
