Abstract
This study aims to produce a Student Worksheet based on mathematical modeling of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System topic using the context of a bidar boat festival that is valid, practical, and has potential effects to support mathematical communication skills. This design research uses a development studies model that includes the preliminary study and formative evaluation stages. This study involved grade VIII students of State Junior High School 24 Palembang. Data collection techniques use expert validation, observation, interviews, and written tests. The data obtained are analyzed and described qualitatively. The results of this study are in the form of a student worksheet based on the modeling of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System topic using the context of the Bidar Boat Festival that meets the criteria of validity and practicality, and has a potential effect on mathematical communication skills. The validity criteria in the construct, content, and language aspects were obtained at the expert review stage, involving an expert in the field of mathematical modeling, and supported from the students' perspective at the one-to-one stage. Meanwhile, the practicality criteria obtained from the small group stage, such as attracting interest and improving student performance, can be completed on time and are easy to use without teacher intervention. Based on the results of the student worksheet test based on mathematical modeling at the field test stage, in general, students can show indicators of mathematical communication ability. As many as 96.25% of students were able to express written mathematical ideas, as well as demonstrate and describe them visually, 92.19% of students were able to use vocabulary, notation, and mathematical structures to represent ideas, describe relationships, and model situations, and 85.71% of students were able to understand, interpret, and evaluate mathematical ideas orally, in writing, and visual form. The percentage of each high-category communication ability indicator was obtained. These results show that this mathematical model-based student worksheet has a significant potential effect in supporting mathematical communication skills.
