Abstract
Indonesia is a country with a relatively high prevalence of stunting at 30.8%, while in South Sumatra Province the prevalence of stunting is 31.7%, and in Musi Rawas Regency it reaches 34.6% in 2022. The Health Belief Model (HBM) serves as a theoretical framework that can bridge individual habits, including parenting styles. This study explores information regarding the parenting styles of parents with stunted toddlers. The research was conducted in Musi Rawas Regency using a descriptive research design and a qualitative approach. The informants consisted of 31 individuals with sampling techniques using purposive sampling. The research results show that the parenting behavior towards stunting children is shaped by several perceptual factors. In terms of vulnerability perception, internal family factors, economics, and the environment are the causes of the vulnerability to stunting. In terms of severity perception, low levels of knowledge cause the community to consider stunting not a serious problem. In terms of threat perception, the majority of informants feel that stunting is a threat, thus engaging in preventive behavior. In terms of perceived barriers, a rather complex issue is found, namely the inability to meet children's nutritional needs, lack of attention to children, early marriage, and surrounding environmental factors. Regarding perceived benefits, the majority of informants feel that they derive benefits from stunting prevention behaviors. In terms of cues to action, the abundance of information received about prevention and dangers of stunting motivates informants to engage in stunting prevention behaviors. Additionally, in terms of self-efficacy, the majority of informants feel confident and capable of successfully implementing stunting prevention. It can be concluded that the parenting patterns formed among parents of stunted toddlers in Musi Rawas District still exhibit poor behavior regarding stunting prevention, primarily due to the low economic level.
