Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of tracheae (trachea types, secondary wall thickening forms, perforation types, trachea shapes, tail transitions, length, and diameter) in several plant species of the Mimosaceae family. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with the maceration method on five plant species, namely Acacia (Acacia auriculiformis A. Cunn. ex Benth), Jengkol (Archidendron jiringa (Jack) I.C.Nielsen), Petai Cina (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit), Petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk.), and Trembesi (Samanea saman (Jacq.) Merr). The samples observed were branch stems that had undergone secondary growth (mature). The findings revealed variations in trachea types, including pitted, scalariform, and reticulate types. The forms of secondary wall thickening included pitted, scalariform, reticulate type I, and reticulate type II. The perforation types consisted of simple perforation, scalariform perforation, and reticulate perforation. The trachea shapes found were drum-shaped, barrel-shaped, and tube shaped. Tail transitions were categorized into abrupt and gradual types. Trachea sizes varied, with lengths ranging from 139.66 µm to 640.25 µm and diameters ranging from 51.96 µm to 193.28 µm. The results of this study are contributed in the form of a booklet.
