Abstract

East Java as one of the national rice prodution centers, especially in Ngawi Regency, has a problem of drought during the dry season, making it a major challenge for farmers in maintaining land productivity. Therefore, in several rice field production areas, groundwater is the main source of agricultural irrigation. This thesis examines groundwater conservation strategies to maintain the sustainability of aquifers in supporting an environmentally friendly agricultural system in Geneng Village, Geneng District, Ngawi Regency, East Java. The research was conducted through geoelectric analysis to identify the characteristics and capacity of the aquifer layers. In addition, calculations were made for existing agricultural irrigation water needs and simulations of irrigation water needs using Cropwat 8.0 to evaluate agricultural management scenarios that can reduce irrigation water demands. The results showed that the research area is located on an alluvial sediment plain at an elevation of 50–56 meters above sea level, composed of clay, silt, and sand, and does not have an active geological structure. The results of the geoelectric analysis showed that the existence of an aquifer was interpreted to be at a depth of 5–75 meters with a thickness ranging from 10 to 33 meters. The potential groundwater flow reaches 7,071 m³/day or a total of 1,377,884 m³, while the existing agricultural irrigation needs of 523,760 m³/year can be reduced to 262,196 m³/year by implementing a Rice-Corn-Rice cropping pattern, so that the aquifer service life increases from 2.6 years to 5.3 years. Aquifer conservation strategies include the application of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method, crop rotation between rice and secondary crops, the construction of water catchment structures such as small reservoirs or infiltration pits, and the protection of recharge areas.
