Abstract

Weeds were unwanted plants that grew wild and contained allelopathic compounds that could reduce the productivity of cultivated crops. One common type of weed found was goosegrass, which was known to be resistant to synthetic herbicides. Chemical weed control using herbicides was considered effective; however, continuous use could lead to resistance and environmental impacts. Therefore, it was necessary to find more sustainable decisions alternatives, one of which was utilizing allelopathic compounds from bamboo leaf extract. This study aimed to determine the effect of bamboo leaf extract as a bioherbicide on the growth of goosegrass weeds and to identify the optimal extract concentration for effective control. The research was conducted in the greenhouse and laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, from October to December 2024, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of six treatments: P0 (control), P1 (25% bamboo leaf extract), P2 (50% bamboo leaf extract), P3 (75% bamboo leaf extract), P4 (100% bamboo leaf extract), and P5 (1.2 ml ammonium glufosinate), with three replications. The observed parameters included weed height, number of leaves, fresh weight, dry weight, root length, and phytotoxicity level. Data were analyzed One-way analysis owed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that bamboo leaf extract at concentrations of 100% (P4) had an effect in inhibiting the growth of goosegrass weeds.
