Abstract

Goosegrass (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn.) is one of the weeds that can grow in all places and can cause interfere to plants in agricultural areas. To reduce competition between cultivated plants and weeds, weed control is necessary. Weed control can be through chemicals in the form of herbicides, one of which is topramezon. Apart from chemicals, weed control can also be through organic herbicides from leaf extracts. Mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni (L.) Jacq.) contains certain compounds that can be utilized as organic herbicides. This study aims to obtain the concentration of mahogany leaf extracts and topramezon herbicides in controlling goosegrass and to determine the level of concentration of extracts that are effective in suppressing the growth of goosegrass. The research was conducted in the greenhouse and laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra from October 2024 to December 2024. The method using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 6 treatments and 3 replicates, namely: P0 = 0% (control), P1 = 10% (mahogany leaf extract), P2 = 35% (mahogany leaf extract), P3 = 60% (mahogany leaf extract), P4 = 85% (mahogany leaf extract), and P5 = 1 L ha-1 (topramezon herbicide). The data obtained in this study were analyzed using the One Way Analysis method at the 95% level. Then if the results obtained are significantly different, it is continued with Duncan's Multiple Range test at the 5% level. The results of the study are the application of organic bioherbisida from mahogany leaf extract is effective in suppressing the growth of grass. Treatment P2 with a concentration level of 35% can inhibit the plant height and number of leaves, treatment P3 with a concentration level of 60% can inhibit the growth of root length, and treatment P4 with a concentration level of 85% suppresses the accumulation of fresh weight, dry weight, physical changes in weed leaves, and weed mortality rate. The higher of concentration of organic herbicide extract from mahogany leaf extract, the more effective is in inhibiting weed growth.
