Abstract
A study has been conducted on alternative filler materials for solid rubber compounds using chicken eggshells and carbon black. This study varied the amount of filler between eggshells and carbon black by 15:35, 25:25, and 35:15 to determine a good filler composition. Based on the results of XRD testing, it shows that the main content of eggshells is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and based on the results of SEM testing, it shows a change in the morphological structure of eggshell powder before and after activation which is characterized by an increase in pore size and the number of cracks resulting from the SEM morphology of the activated eggshell. The solid rubber compound that has been formed will be tested for physical properties in the form of hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, tear resistance, specific gravity, and rheometer according to ASTM standards. Based on the results of this physical property test, it was found that substitution compound A had a better test value than other substitution compounds with a hardness value of 29, tensile strength of 3.5 Mpa, tear resistance of 14.8 kN/m and rheometer with a torque delta of 4.01. The elongation at break test of substitution compound C has a better value than other substitution compounds of 690% and the specific gravity test of substitution compounds B and C has the same value and is greater than substitution compound A of 1.070 g/cm3.
