Abstract

The increasing use of sensitive electronic devices has raised concerns about electrical power quality, which is often affected by disturbances such as harmonics, voltage fluctuations, and low power factor. These disturbances can degrade equipment performance, cause damage, and increase operational costs. This research aims to develop a prototype single-phase electrical power quality observation system using Python, capable of monitoring disturbance parameters based on IEEE standards. The developed system, named PQlyz, integrates hardware such as the Picoscope 5000 Series, Differential Probe, and Ampere Clamp for data acquisition. It then processes this data using Python libraries like Pandas, NumPy, SciPy (for Fast Fourier Transform), Matplotlib (for visualization), and PyQt5 (for the graphical user interface). The data is analyzed to calculate RMS voltage and current, active, reactive, and apparent power, power factor, voltage fluctuations, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), individual harmonics (H1, H3, H5, etc.), and detect sags, swells, and interruptions. The analysis results are presented in numerical tables and graphical visualizations. Prototype testing demonstrates that the application consistently measures key power quality parameters, provides accurate data, and features a user-friendly interface. However, the current system operates offline and is limited to single-phase systems. The contribution of this research is expected to serve as a foundation for developing more advanced, efficient, and economical power quality observation systems in the future, particularly with real-time monitoring capabilities and three-phase functionality.
