Abstract
Regionally, the Bungin Campang Village area located in Simpang District, South OKU Regency, is located in the Palembang sub-basin, which is an integral part of the South Sumatra Basin. The South Sumatra Basin is a back-arc basin formed in the Tertiary period due to tectonic interaction between the Sunda Shelf, which is part of the Asian continental plate, and the Indian Ocean plate. Geologically, the research area is characterized by a dominant sandstone lithology, particularly from the Talang Akar Formation. Sandstone in the Talang Akar Formation was formed during the Oligocene to Miocene, in a transitional environment that underwent a transgression phase due to changes in the stratigraphic sequence. These conditions make the Talang Akar Formation an intriguing subject for further study. This research was conducted by analyzing several rock samples using the petrography method, which was then interpreted to determine the rock classification, rock sources, and the origin of the constituent minerals. The research area is morphologically dominated by one prominent landform, namely hills and slopes resulting from the denudation process. In general, the sequence of stratigraphic units in the research area consists of three formations from oldest to youngest, namely the Kikim Formation (Tpok), the Talang Akar Formation (Tomt), and the Baturaja Formation (Tmb). In addition, one main geological structure was also found in the research area, namely the Takar Fault. A total of eight sandstone samples from the Talang Akar Formation indicate that the deposition process originated from the erosion of the Bukit Barisan Mountains which were then carried by the flow with relatively stable conditions. Evidence of the deposition process is indicated by the presence of coarsening upward sedimentary structures, as well as grain shapes ranging from subangular to subrounded, with sorting types characterized by floating contacts and point contacts. Based on the percentage of minerals analyzed, the eight samples are included in the lithic wacke type. Based on the tectonic setting, the samples are divided into two zones, namely magmatic arc and recycled orogen. In the magmatic arc zone, samples LP 04 and LP 07 are in the dissected arc subzone, LP 01, LP 02, LP 05, and LP 06 are in the transitional arc subzone, and LP 03 is in the undissected arc subzone. Meanwhile, the recycled orogen zone consists of sample LP 08 which is in the quartzose recycled subzone. All sandstone samples contain quartz minerals originating from slates and schists that have undergone a low-grade metamorphism process.
