Abstract

Corn is important crop in Indonesia. Effort to increase productivity was hampered because of unavailability of acid-soil tolerant varieties. Meanwhile, used of corn in human comsumption increases along with the increase in the human population and food diversification technology. The objective of this research is to evaluate several characteristics of agronomy of corn populations resulted from the cross between high-quality protein content and acid-soil tolerant plants. The research incorporated a Randomized Complete Block Design with eight corn populations as treatments and three replications as blocks. Among these populations, four populations derived from diallel crosses and others are their parent of high-quality protein content plants (Toray-1, Toray-2) and acid-soil tolerant plants (GS-5, and GS-10). This research indicated that croseed populations in general, showed good agronomic characters, with protein content of 9.34- 9.92 % and yield potential of 4.34 to 5.29 ton dry seeds/ha. Based on the yield potential, the best cross population is GS-10xToray-2, while based on the protein content, the most potential population is GS-5xToray-1.
