Abstract

Introduction. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a musculoskeletal disorder of the wrist caused by compression of the nervus medianus. Online motorcycle taxi drivers are an at-risk occupational group due to exposure to repetitive wrist movements while driving, which can increase the incidence of CTS. This study aimed to determine the relationship between repetitive wrist movements and pain complaints based on the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) among online motorcycle taxi drivers in Palembang City. Method. This was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected from 56 online motorcycle taxi drivers in Palembang City using an accidental sampling technique. Primary data were obtained through structured interviews using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) to assess pain complaints and through direct observation to assess the frequency of repetitive movements. Results. The results of the bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between repetitive wrist movements (p=0.643), age (p=0.757), work tenure (p=0.928), and work duration (p=0.761) with pain complaints based on the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). However, a significant relationship was found between Body Mass Index (BMI) and pain complaints based on the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) (p=0.043). Conclusion. There is no significant relationship between repetitive wrist movements and pain complaints based on the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) in online motorcycle taxi drivers in Palembang City.
