Abstract

Soap has become an important need among the people. Soap is used daily. The production of bath soap made from natural ingredients is still rarely found on the market. Most of those scattered still use synthetic ingredients as their active ingredients. Research on the Utilization of Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and Virgin Red Palm Oil (VRPO) for Making Solid Soap and Quality Tests have been carried out. This study aims to determine the quality of Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and Virgin Red Palm Oil (VRPO) by testing the free fatty acid content, water content and impurities test according to SNI 01-0003-1987 for Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and SNI 01- 2901- 2006 for Virgin Red Palm Oil (VRPO). Making solid soap products with Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and Virgin Red Palm Oil (VRPO) of good quality in terms of acidity (pH), foam stability and organoleptic tests, as well as whether the solid soap produced meets the quality standards of SNI 3532-2021 which including water content, total fat, insoluble material in ethanol, free fatty acids and unsaponifiable fat. The method used for oil quality is the alkalimetry method for testing the free fatty acid content and the gravimetric method for testing the water content and impurities content. The next step is to make soap using the hot method. Soap was made with various formulations, namely PKO(g) and VRPO(g) ie 0 g, 30 g; 10 g, 20 g; 15 g, 15 g; 20 g, 10 g and 30 g, 0 g. The results of the study obtained data, namely, the quality of PKO tested for free fatty acids, water and impurities, respectively 22.084%, 0.780% and 1.812%, and the VRPO quality was tested for free fatty acids, water and impurities, respectively 4.556%, 0.198% and 1.884%. Good quality solid soap, namely variations of 15 g soap, 15 g with a hard and slightly oily texture, pH 8.45, foam stability 81.6% and organoleptic tests covering texture 88%, color 92%, aroma 84%. Based on the results of the SNI-3532-2021 test, solid soap has met the quality standards of SNI-3532-2021 covering 3.01% water content, 64.94% total fat, 0.59% ethanol insoluble ingredients, 0.0 free fatty acids. 50%, pH 8.06 and unsaponifiable fat 0.21%.
