Abstract
In Indonesia, maize is a second important crop after rice. A long with the increase in economic gowth and human population, farm-land to cultivate maize becomes limited and moves to sub-optimal land, such as acid-soils. Maize is mostly utilized as food for human dan poultry industries. For that reason, this research program is intended to develop maize accessions tolerant to acid-soil with high qualitity protein content. This paper summarizes the program which includes genetics sources, research road-map, research activities, and current out-put resulted from series of researches. So far, this program resulted eight maize accessions, namely Unsri-J1 to Unsri-J8. These accessions considers as an open-politated type of maize having plant-hight of 200-228 cm, ear posisition at < 50% of the plant-height, anthesis period at 44-50 days, and harvested at 94-106 days. The productivity at farmer level and the potential yield are about 5.53-7.75 and 7.79-9.67 ton dry-seeds per ha, respectively, and the protein content about 8.57 to 9.48 %.
