Abstract

Maspari Island is one of the coastal areas in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, which has potential fishery resources, but information regarding the biodiversity of fish larvae in these waters is still very limited. The presence of fish larvae is very important because it represents the early life stage of fish, which determines the sustainability and continuity of fish populations in aquatic ecosystems. This study aims to identify and analyze the species, composition, abundance, and biodiversity of fish larvae in the waters of Maspari Island, as well as to examine the relationship between the abundance and biodiversity of fish larvae and the physical and chemical parameters of the waters. The research was conducted in July 2024 at five sampling stations using the Systematic Random Sampling method and a bongo net to collect fish larvae. Identification of fish larvae was carried out morphologically using a microscope in the laboratory, while environmental parameters were measured using Lamotte and Aquatroll instruments, including temperature, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen. The results showed that there were six families of fish larvae found, namely Clupeidae, Percophidae, Labridae, Carangidae, Creediidae, and Engraulidae, with fish larvae abundance ranging from 156 to 1065 ind/1000 m³, The biodiversity of fish larvae was generally low, with high evenness and high dominance. These results indicate that the waters of Maspari Island have the potential to serve as an important habitat for the early development of fish and support efforts for the sustainable management of fishery resources.
