Abstract

The prevalence of stunting among toddlers in South Sumatera Province has decreased from 24.8% in 2021 to 20.3% in 2023. Lahat Regency has the highest decrease in stunting prevalence (ranked first), while Ogan Komering Ilir Regency has the highest stunting prevalence (ranked last). Stunting has a significant impact on population studies, particularly on population quality, population growth, population welfare, economic development, and public policy. Population studies can analyze stunting from various aspects, such as demography, epidemiology, sociology, and economics. Thus, population studies can help understand the complexity of stunting and develop effective policies to prevent and overcome stunting. This study aims to analyze the determinants of Stunting Risk Family (SRF) in both regencies. The study uses secondary data from the Perwakilan BKKBN Provinsi Sumatera Selatan and analyzes the determinant factors that have a significant relationship with the risk of stunting. The analysis results show that factors such as families with toddlers, families with under-fives, the presence of women of childbearing age (WCA) in the family, and unqualified water sources have a significant relationship with the risk of stunting. This study recommends handling for both regencies, including improving the quality and access to clean water and proper sanitation, strengthening family planning programs, and educating on birth spacing. Additionally, specific handling is needed for each regency based on the analysis results, such as mentoring families with toddlers and under-fives, increasing family welfare, and reproductive health campaigns in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, and nutrition intervention programs for toddlers and under-fives, multisectoral approaches for stunting handling, and ideal age campaigns for WCA in Lahat Regency. By doing so, it is expected that the prevalence of stunting can continue to decrease, and the quality of life of the community can improve.
