Abstract

Small and medium industries (SMEs) are a reference for the government in creating jobs, especially after the economic crisis several years ago due to Covid19. The objectives of this study are (1) to analyze the driving and inhibiting factors of SMEs, (2) to measure the growth of SME performance and (3) to determine strategies for optimizing superior processed food products in Muara Enim Regency. The research location was carried out in 4 sub-districts in Muara Enim Regency, namely Gelumbang, Lawang Kidul, Semendo Darat Laut and Semendo Darat Ulu. The method used was the Survey Method with direct interviews with 9 SMEs and 4 expert respondents. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, then the data was collected and processed using Microsoft Excel using a Likert scale, mathematical calculations, SWOT and AHP. Based on the research results 1) The driving factors in optimizing small and medium industries towards superior processed food products in Muara Enim Regency consist of creativity and innovation which have the highest criteria and scores, then increasing market demand, technological development and digitalization, training and development of human resources with medium criteria and finally government support and subsidy programs with low criteria. 2) The inhibiting factors in optimizing small and medium industries towards superior processed food products in Muara Enim Regency that have the most influence are regulatory constraints and limited human resource quality with medium criteria and the lowest total score, then limited access to capital, minimal access to technology and infrastructure and marketing and distribution problems with medium criteria. 3) Analysis of the performance of Small and Medium Industries in Muara Enim Regency is classified as moderate. 4) The strategy for optimizing SMEs towards superior processed food products in Muara Enim Regency is collaboration between the Department, CSR and academic practitioners to form a system for fostering and accessing SME capital.
