Abstract
PT Multi Service Mining (MSM) is a company engaged in coal mining contracting services located in South Sumatra. PT Multi Service Mining (MSM) applies an open-pit mining system using the strip mine method and requires a Life of Mine (LOM) sump design to accommodate water entering the mine. The purpose of this is to ensure that mining activities can be carried out properly and according to plan. PT Multi Service Mining (MSM) does not yet have a design plan for the LOM sump, making it necessary to develop such a design. Primary data includes water elevation in the pit, inlet and outlet pipe elevations, actual pumping discharge, and catchment area, while secondary data includes rainfall data from 2015–2024, topographic maps, and specifications for pumps and pipes.The analysis results show that the total water inflow into sump 1 of pit 1A is 3,883.68 m³/day, while sump 2 reaches 4,655.78 m³/day, with an additional groundwater inflow of 1,442.97 m³/day. The designed volume of sump 1 is 18,487.23 m³, while sump 2 has a capacity of 23,091.83 m³. The system requires one pump for each sump to ensure optimal dewatering.The recommendations proposed include the construction of sumps according to the design and the addition of one pump, considering that currently, only one unit is available on site. This design is expected to provide a sustainable solution for mine water management, improve operational efficiency, and reduce the environmental impact caused by water accumulation.
