Abstract

Swamp water has a low pH value ranging from 3–4, while the optimal pH value for rearing pangasius catfish ranges from 6.5–8.5. Efforts that can be made to increase the low pH of swamp water are by liming using snail shell lime. The aims of this research was to determine the best dosage of snail shell lime for increase water pH as well as the survival and growth of pangasius catfish. This research was carried out at the Aquaculture and Experimental Ponds Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya from February to March 2025. This research used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and three replications, namely 0 mg L-1 (P0), 5 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P1), 10 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P2), 15 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P3) and 20 mg L-1 equivalent CaO (P4). Pangasius catfish (initial length 5±0.5 cm) with a stocking density of 10 fish m-2 was cultured for 30 days. The results of this research showed that the use of snail shell lime with a dose of 20 mg L-1 equivalent to CaO (P4) was the best dose that was able to optimize the pH of swamp water with an initial pH of 5.29 to 7.65, resulting in absolute weight growth of 5.72 g, absolute length growth of 3.96 cm, feed efficiency of 109.2% and survival of pangasius catfish 90.00%.
