Abstract

Rubber Land Conversion Patterns to Oil Palm and the Influencing Factors in Banyuasin Regency Conversion Patterns of Rubber into Oil Palm and the Factors That Influence It in Banyuasin District Reza¹, Mirza Antoni², Desi Aryani³ 1,2,3 Master of Agribusiness Study Program, Bukit Besar, Jl. Padang Selasa No. 524, Bukit Lama, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang City, South Sumatra 30139 Abstract This study aims to identify the conversion patterns of rubber land to oil palm, the benefits to farmers who make the conversion, and the factors influencing the conversion of rubber land to oil palm. It also evaluates the Rubber GAP (Gap) in Banyuasin Regency. Data were obtained through a survey of 71 farmers using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results indicate that the majority of farmers are of productive age (35–54 years old) with a primary school education level. Most farmers have families of 1–4 people and work as rubber farmers. Two land conversion patterns were identified: partial conversion (intercropping) and complete conversion to oil palm. Eighty-eight percent of farmers in Taja Mulya and 86 percent in Lubuk Karet have completed complete conversion. The main reasons for conversion are leaf fall disease, decreased rubber productivity, and economic considerations. A binary logistic analysis revealed that the factors significantly influencing the conversion of rubber land to oil palm are land area, age, selling price, and length of farming experience. The analysis showed that oil palm farming yields a higher net income (Rp74,927,790/ha/year) compared to rubber (Rp64,242,353/ha/year) and lower production costs. The Net Present Value (NPV) also indicates that oil palm is more economically viable. Thus, land conversion to oil palm is a rational, adaptive strategy for improving farmer welfare amidst challenges facing rubber productivity. Keywords: Land Conversion, Oil Palm, Rubber
