Abstract

Energy has played an important role in the economy, and energy consumption can even indicate the level of a country's economy. China has become one of the countries with the highest energy consumption in the world, which aligns with China's position as one of the largest economies in the world. Energy security has become an important issue for China to continue operating and improving its economy. Energy diplomacy has become one of China's efforts to secure its energy supply. The research aims to examine China's efforts in maintaining energy security through energy diplomacy with Nigeria, particularly from 2018 to 2022. In this research, the author will examine China's strategy in its energy diplomacy using Andreas Goldthau's concept of energy diplomacy, which refers to three main indicators: bilateral and multilateral relations, foreign direct investment, and foreign aid. Through these three indicators, it can be seen that China's efforts to maintain its energy security through energy diplomacy with Nigeria, particularly during the period from 2018 to 2022, have been carried out effectively. The bilateral and multilateral relations between China and Nigeria are also continuously being expanded, not limited to activities in the energy sector. In addition, China also contributes to the development of Nigeria's infrastructure through foreign direct investment and foreign aid.
