Abstract
Digital technologies are continuing to revolutionize traditional finance with a focus on emerging global economies. This paper assesses the effect of Financial Technology (Fintech) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on Financial Development for ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Using World Bank and IMF datasets for the years 2011 to 2021, a panel data regression using a Random Effects Model (REM) was performed. The study ruled that the impact of both Fintech and ICT on Financial Development is statistically significant and positive, suggesting financial creativity and information technology can drive a more inclusive, efficient, and accessible financial system for all. In conclusion, the study suggests that the financial service providers in ASEAN, need to continue to advance the flexible and adaptive regulatory policies to keep pace with the motion and mores of the fintech industry. Among other things, the study insists on strong protections of digital information systems and calls for postulation of interoperability among the digital platforms as integral to the integrated payment systems of ASEAN.
