Abstract
Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is a collection of symptoms related to prolonged use of digital devices, such as eye strain, dry eyes, and visual disturbances. CVS is a common health issue, especially among university students who frequently use computers for academic activities. This study aims to determine the incidence and risk factors of CVS among students of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University (FK UNSRI), class of 2021. This was a descriptive observational study using purposive sampling. Data were collected via a Google Form questionnaire filled out by 150 FK UNSRI students. Variables examined included CVS symptoms, duration of digital device usage, air conditioner (AC) usage, myopia, room lighting, and dry eyes. The incidence of CVS among FK UNSRI students was found to be 93.3%. The most prominent risk factors included digital device usage for ≥5 hours per day (92.7%) and myopia (60.7%). The most frequently reported symptoms were eye fatigue (54%) and headaches (46.7%). AC usage was reported by 80% of respondents, with 20°C being the most common room temperature. Symptoms of dry eyes, such as eye discomfort and dryness, were also significantly reported. CVS is a significant health concern among FK UNSRI students, with a high prevalence prolonged screen time, refractive errors, and environmental factors such as AC use. Education on ergonomics and healthy digital habits is necessary to mitigate the long-term effects of CVS.
