Abstract

Avicennia alba mangrove is known as a coastal plant that has the potential to produce bioactive compounds that are useful in the pharmaceutical and health fields. This study aims to characterize and quantify the bioactive compounds found in the roots, bark, and leaves of A. alba growing in the Payung Island area, Banyuasin, South Sumatra. The research methods included purposive sampling, extraction using 96% ethanol solvent through the maceration method, and qualitative and quantitative testing of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenols. In addition, compound identification was carried out through LC-MS tests to determine the specific components of secondary metabolite compounds. The results showed that all parts of the plant contain flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, while phenol compounds were only detected in the leaves and bark. A. alba leaves showed the highest flavonoid levels of 0.38 mgQE/g, while the stem bark had the highest tannin levels of 0.49 mgTAE/g. ANOVA statistical analysis showed no significant differences in the concentration of bioactive compounds between plant parts. These findings indicate that all parts of A. alba have the potential to be used as a source of natural raw materials in the development of pharmaceutical products based on bioactive compounds
