Abstract

Cellulolytic fungi are a group of microorganisms that can degrade cellulose, one of the main components of plant cell walls. The presence of cellulolytic fungi is important in the decomposition process of organic matter and has the potential to be utilized in the lignocellulosic waste processing industry. This study aims to isolate and identify cellulolytic fungi from soil in Taman Firdaus area, which is an area with high potential for plant litter. The research was conducted from October 2024 to March 2025, at the Microbiology Laboratory, as well as the Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Biology, FMIPA, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The results of the study obtained from 13 isolates successfully isolated from the soil of Taman Firdaus, where 8 of them have cellulolytic ability and 3 isolates with high cellulase activity, including TFUS 4 and 8 which were identified as Penicillium and TFUS 9 which were identified as Paecilomyces.
