Abstract

Crickets are agricultural pests that damage plants in the early stages. The use of synthetic insecticides causes resistance and pollution, so safer plant-based alternatives are needed. This study was conducted experimentally at the Biology Department of Sriwijaya University using RAL with 6 treatments (0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%) and Regent 5% as a positive control, and 4 repetitions. The observation parameters were the percentage of mortality, LC50 value, behavior and morphology, percent yield of extract and color of TLC plate compounds. The results showed that high concentration of brotowali extract (8%) caused 92.5% mortality in 24 hours, equivalent to the effectiveness of the positive control (5%). TLC and foam tests identified active compounds such as flavonoids, steroids, phenols, terpenoids, and saponins. Brotowali extract also triggered changes in the behavior and morphology of crickets. The low LC₅₀ value indicated high toxicity. Thus, brotowali has the potential to be developed as an alternative plant-based insecticide that is effective and environmentally friendly.
