Abstract

This study explores the perspectives of academic staffs on the internationalization of higher education and the role of English language practices within a university striving for international accreditation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through documentation and semi-structured interviews with study program coordinators and lecturers from two departments at Sriwijaya University. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key themes related to English language use, institutional strategies, academic expectations, and professional development. The findings revealed that English plays a significant role in teaching, communication, and academic activities, while also serving as a vital component in promoting internationalization. However, challenges such as inconsistent language use and limited institutional support remain. Despite these barriers, the study highlights efforts by faculty members and study programs to gradually integrate English and enhance international engagement. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between language practices and internationalization, particularly in non-English-speaking contexts. Recommendations for improving English language support and fostering global academic collaboration are also presented. Keywords: English language practices; higher education; internationalization
