Abstract

The Sumatran featherback (Chitala hypselonotus) is one of the freshwater fish species belonging to the Notopteridae family. The public's demand for this fish has increased, leading to over-exploitation. In nature, the population of this species is declining. In efforts to prevent the extinction of this species, domestication studies should be conducted. This study aims to compare survival, growth, specific growth rate, and feed efficiency fed with 5% and 7% feeding rate. This research was conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya from December 2024 to January 2025. The research used a comparative method. A total of six biofloc fish tanks and eighteen C. hypselonotus (total length = 33 - 38 cm, body weight = 200 - 400 g) were used in this study. Fish were reared for 30 days, and fed with live swamp shrimp (Caridina sp.). The amount of feed was given according to the treatment, each treatment was repeated three times. The feeding frequency was once a day in the afternoon. The data collected were tabulated using Microsoft Excel 2007 program and analyzed using paired t-tests. Water quality data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the survival rate of Sumatran belida (C. hypselonotus) reared in round tarpaulin ponds with different feeding rates was 100% for each treatment. Absolute weight growth, total length growth, and feed efficiency were higher in the 5% feeding rate treatment. While the specific growth rate was higher in the 7% feeding rate treatment.The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for further research.
