Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the major health problems found in society, especially in the elderly. Hypertension control is not only done with pharmacological therapies, but also with non-pharmacological therapies, such as relaxation therapies. One of the relaxation therapies is finger grip therapy, which is believed to be able to lower blood pressure by stimulating energy points on the fingers. The purpose of this study is to describe the results of a case study of family nursing care for families with hypertension in Permata Baru Village. Method: This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach involving three families with their members having a history of hypertension m RT 01 Permata Baru Village. The intervention using finger grip therapy was carried out for 3 consecutive days, with a duration of 20-30 minutes each session. Data collection was carried out through direct observation, interviews, and blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention. Results: Common nursing diagnoses included acute pain, lack of knowledge, and readiness to improve health management. The results showed there was a decrease in blood pressure of all three patients after being given finger grip therapy. Moreover, the families' understanding of hypertension conditions and its treatments increased. Discussion. Finger grip therapy has been proven to be an effective and easy complementary intervention to help reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This intervention also increases family involvement in the health management of their family members. This study supports the implementation of non-pharmacological therapy as part of family nursing care
