Abstract
This study investigates Indonesia's National Interests in resolving the South China Sea conflict. The case studied is when Indonesia has been involved in the South China Sea conflict since 2010. The main issue in this study is; How Indonesia's Interests realize the resolution of the South China Sea conflict. This research uses a qualitative approach. The main theory used to analyze this research problem is national interest. The South China Sea conflict began in 1947, when China privately stated almost the entire region. Since 2010, China has claimed the northern area of the Natuna Islands, which are located in the Kepulauan Riau Province and part of Indonesia's Exclusive Economic Zone. However, based on arguments over a traditional fishing zone, China claims that it has authority over the territorial area in the Natuna Islands. However, based on arguments over a traditional fishing zone, China claims that it has authority over the territorial waters in the Natuna Islands. Conflicts between China and Indonesia have started as the consequence of various violations. The Indonesian government rejects the recognition of the nine-dash line and views China's actions as violations of Indonesia's EEZ in the North Natuna Sea, while the Chinese government asserts the right of its coast guard and fishing vessels to operate in the area. This research identified three models based on the national interest approach;Core Values, Middle Range Objective, and Long Range Objective. The government of Indonesia advocates all those involved to respect international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and calls on all parties to exercise restraint and collaborate to maintain stability in Southeast Asia.
