Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the representasion of population density issues in the photo story “Jakarta Bercerita” published on the online platform Antarafoto.com. Using a qualitative interpretive approach, the research applied Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory to explore the meanings embedded in the visual narratives. The findings revealed that the photographs did not merely capture urban life visually but also implied spatial crises, social inequality, and environmental pressure resulting from uncontrolled urbanization. The use of visual symbols, narrative captions, and compositional elements contributed to a deeper understanding of Jakarta as a paradoxical and overcrowded city. These photo stories functioned as reflective media that not only documented events but also shaped public perception of population density. This issues remains highly relevant, as Jakarta continues to face challenges related to urban planning, environmental sustainability, and social disparities due to its population growth and spatial limitations. Keywords: Piercean semiotics, photojournalism, population density, Jakarta, antarafoto
