Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis representasi diskriminasi dan rasialisme dalam film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck menggunakan teori semiotika Roland Barthes. Film ini mengangkat konflik sosial yang terjadi akibat sistem budaya Minangkabau yang berbasis matrilineal, yang menempatkan individu dalam stratifikasi sosial tertentu berdasarkan garis keturunan dan status ekonomi. Tokoh utama, Zainuddin, mengalami diskriminasi karena ia bukan keturunan Minang asli, sehingga dipandang tidak layak untuk menikahi Hayati, perempuan yang dicintainya. Konflik dalam film ini mencerminkan ketegangan antara adat istiadat dan kebebasan individu dalam menentukan nasibnya sendiri. film ini mengukuhkan pemahaman bahwa takdir sering kali digunakan sebagai justifikasi atas ketidakadilan sosial, memperlihatkan bagaimana individu harus tunduk pada norma yang sudah mengakar kuat dalam masyarakat. Kata kunci: Semiotika, Roland Barthes, Diskriminasi, Rasialisme, Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck.
