Abstract

Scabies is a health problem that often occurs in communities with poor environmental sanitation and poor personal hygiene. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and environmental sanitation with complaints of scabies in the Merdeka Health Center work area of Palembang City. The study was quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The population was all residents in the Merdeka Health Center work area of Palembang City, totaling 81 people determined by Proportional Random Sampling. Data were analyzed univariately and chi-square. The results stated that there were 47 people (58%) experiencing complaints of scabies. This shows that there is a significant relationship between variables of bathing habits, towel cleanliness, bed and sheet cleanliness, hand and nail cleanliness, wastewater disposal facilities, and garbage disposal facilities with complaints of scabies, while for clothing cleanliness, clean water sources, and toilet ownership there is no significant relationship. It is concluded that scabies disease complaints in the Merdeka Health Center work area of Palembang City is caused by personal hygiene and environmental sanitation of the community. It is recommended that there is a need to increase awareness of personal hygiene and environmental sanitation in the surrounding area.
