Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is a food crop commodity that plays a strategic role in food diversification. Corn production continues to increase, reflecting efforts to meet national production targets by creating superior corn varieties, both in terms of quality and quantity. The purpose of this study is to determine the growth and seed production of 3 accessions of purple corn plants generation F3. Which is carried out in collaboration with farmers on agricultural land in the Indralaya area. This research will be carried out from October 2024 to January 2025. The method used in the Group Random Design (RAK) consisted of 3 blocks and each block had 40 plant holes with each in 1 hole planted with 3 to 4 seeds per hole and then the best 2 were selected to be harvested as baby corn and purple pipilan corn. Data were analyzed using the ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) test with F table and further tested with the Least Significant Difference (BNT) test α = 5% and the calculation of segregation value based on color. The genetic material in this study consisted of 3 accessions, namely UNSRI – J1xU corn seeds, UNSRI – J2xU corn seeds, and UNSRI – J3xU corn seeds. The results showed that accession UNSRI – J3xU showed the best growth results among other accessions with plant height 260.86 cm and cob height 151.96 cm. Baby corn production for cob length of accession UJ1xU is the best at 18.1 cm, for cob diameter accession UJ3xU is the best at 2.67 cm and for cob weight UJ2xU is the best with an average weight of 99.3 cm. Accession UJ2xU is the best in smallholder corn production and purple color segregation among other accessions, so it has the potential as a breeder of superior purple corn varieties.
