Abstract
The increasing number of motor vehicles increases air pollution due to vehicle exhaust emissions containing hazardous substances such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and hydrocarbons (HC). This system designs and builds a motor vehicle exhaust emission detection system, which can monitor air quality from vehicle exhaust, by developing a detection tool based on the Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller that uses three gas sensors, namely MQ2, MQ7, MQ135. The system works by reading gas levels in the form of analog signals then converted into digital data by Arduino through the ADC feature into ppm units, providing an automatic warning if the gas exceeds the setpoint that has been determined by the system automatically activating the LED and buzzer as visual and audible warnings, and displaying measurement results in real-time via a 16x2 LCD. The system design is programmed using the Arduino IDE with the C++ programming language. The entire series of tools are designed in a portable and safe black box. The test results show that the tool is able to detect air pollution levels from vehicle exhaust effectively and provide accurate data information. This design can be a solution to support air pollution control and increase awareness of the dangers of vehicle emissions.
