Abstract

The advancement of network technology drives the need for configuration automation in server infrastructure, especially within complex cluster server environments. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of three network automation engines, namely Ansible, Puppet, and Chef, in automating server services (Apache, MySQL, Exim, and FileZilla) on two virtualization platforms: Proxmox and VMware ESXi. The study was conducted through several stages, including literature review, virtual infrastructure design, testing of 24 scenarios before and after optimization, and result evaluation using five parameters: CPU usage, RAM usage, data transfer speed, amount of data sent, and configuration time. The TOPSIS method was used to determine the tool with the most efficient performance. The results show that the PR_PU_FTP scenario (Puppet on FTP service in Proxmox) achieved the highest score of 0.9076, indicating the most optimal performance. In addition, the EX_CH_WEB scenario (Chef on Apache service in VMware ESXi) showed consistent and stable results after being tested 10 times, with an average CPU usage of 0.22%, RAM usage of 10.2%, configuration time of 44.7 seconds, and data transfer speed of 1138.1 kb/s. These findings provide a strong foundation for selecting the most suitable combination of tool, service, and platform for efficient and reliable server system automation.
