Abstract

It can be said that the condenser function is as a heat exchanger or a heat exchanger, condenser work iiself is condensing the steam coming out of the lurbine into water. The water from this condensation is pumped by the CEP (Condensate Extraction Pnmp) towards the boiler and will be reused. In this heat transfer the principle used is the principle of heat transfer by conduclion and conveclion. The process of conduction heat transfer occurs when cooling water flows in small pipes and convection heat transfer occurs when steam passes through the outside of the small pipe. The condenser is a type of heat exchanger that serves to condense the working fluid. The fluid iiself works not only steam, for example, i t can also use ammonia and lube oil as its working fluid. One of the condensers in the factory is an ammonia condenser with an ammonia condenser surface type. This type of condenser shell section is ammonia and i n the tube seclion is water. The fluid itself works not only steam, for example, it can also use ammonia and lube oil as its working fluid. The need for a heat exchanger in the industrial world is very important and the condenser is one of the main components in the most important part, which if there is a problem on the tube line of cooling water caused by dirt carried by cooling water will cause the cooling water supply the condenser to decrease. this will result in a decrease in the effectiveness, performance of the condenser. This study aims t o analyze and understand how much the effectiveness of ammonia condensers decreased from the design conditions in 2008 to the current conditions in 2016 and the factors that caused the decrease i n the effectiveness of the condenser. From this research, the effectiveness of the actual condition of condenser A i s 56.3%, condenser B is 68.8%, condenser C i s 78.5%, and condenser D i s 61.7%, Ihe average effectiveness of the condenser i n actual conditions i s 66.325%. In condenser design conditions the effectiveness is 85.7%o. The decrease in the effectiveness of this condenser can be caused by corrosion that occurs on the shell and tube sides. Soiling on the shell and tube side, Decreasing the amount of cooling water mass flow and water quality and aging of the condenser. The effectiveness of the condenser can be increased if routine maintenance is carried out and improvements to the factors causing the decline in effectiveness as mentioned earlier.
