Abstract
One of corrosion control metode is coating metals using other metals, for example carbon Steel SS400 coated lead by Hot Dipping. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of long dipping of SS400 low carbon Steel in licpiid lead o n corrosion rate in sea water environment. This research uses experimental research method. The tests consisted of testing of kima composition, thickness testing, corrosion rate testing, broken age test, microstructure testing, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) testing. The first test is the Chemical composition of Steel, tin and corrosive media (seawater), the results obtained is the content of carbon (C) element in the Steel as much as 0.145%, the element of Pb contained tin is 97.62%, while the Sn element contained as much as 0.586%, and the most dominating content in sea water tested is the element Chloride (Cl). Both thickness tests, the result is that the longer the dyeing time, the thicker the specimen layer is obtained. Third, corrosion rate testing, the longer the time ofhot dipping coating process, it can make the value of corrosion rate becomes more decrease. Fourth test of broken age, the result oflead layer (Pb) found on hot dipping specimen able to inhibit the broken cycle of specimen. The five microstructure tests, there intermetallic on lead-coated specimens (Pb). And lastly SEM testing, interglanular presence on the surface of the specimen fracture. Based on the results of this research analysis can be concluded that the lead (Pb) used to coat SS400 Steel is very useful to prevent the rate of corrosion. are Keywords: SS400 Carbon Steel, Lead (Pb), Hot Dipping, Corrosion Rate, Micro Structure, Cycle, SEM
