Abstract

Boiler is conversion energy instrument to convert fluids from liquid phase to gas phase (Steam). Boiler are generally used in various industrial sectors, especiaily steam power plant. Boilers consist of several types and different uses of fuel, such as water tube boilers and fire tube boilers, solid fiiels such as coal, liquid fuels such as kerosene, and diesel fuel, and gas fuels such as natural gas. Water tube boiler utilizes the heat transfer process from fuel buming on fumace will heated the tube and temperature of water inside tube will increase significanly and transform from liquid phase to gas phase (steam) with high temperature and pressure. At PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang, steam produced by boilers is used for various purposes, such as steam turbine drive, and also used in reformer units for the production of ammonia, methanol, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide. Boiler operates every day for 24 hours to fullfil steam production, and the fuel will be supplied continuously to be bumed in the fumace during the boiler operation process, so it is necessary to control the performance of the boiler. Control of boiler performance to ensure that the boiler operates in good and efficient conditions and also to prevent the possibility of an unscheduled shutdown. In operating a boiler, the operator that the boiler is operating properly, by using analysis of boiler efficiency calculation. By knowing the value of daily boiler efficiency, operators can control fuel used so that production costs will be more efficient. Boilers at PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja is a water lube boiler with pulverized coal fuel and maximum steam capacity produce are 2 x 240 tons/honr. Based on the analysis of boiler daily efficiency using direct method, known that the efficiency of the boiler is always changing, due to unconstant workload. Based on calculation, the highest boiler efficiency is 84,627% with a mass tlow rate of fuel 35,93 tons/hour, feed water mass flow rate 222,24 tons/hour, and steam mass flow rate 215,24 tons/hour. While the lowest efficiency is 75.894%, the mass flow rate of fuel is 17,52 tons/hour, the mass flow rate of feed water is 96,07 tons/hour, and the mass flow rate of steam is 93,88 tons/hour.
