Abstract

The purpose of this research were to: 1) Describe the barriers who faced of farmers to rice farming into rubber farming, 2) Analyze the differences in income of farmers before and after the conversion into rubber farming, and 3). Analyze the factors affecting the conversion of rice farming into rubber farming. This research was coducted in Simpang Heran Village of Air Sugihan Ditrict Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The research location was choosen directly with the research method that used was survey method. This study was used survey method and using simple random sampling. Fieldwork was conducted in march 2015 to complete. The sampling method used Simple Random Sampling. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The result of this research are, that barriers who faced of farmer to rice farming into rubber farming is the cost of productions, OPT control, and marketing. The income of farmers before the transfer function of farming is much lower than the income of income of farmers after over the conversion of farming. The average farm income of farmers before the conversion is Rp. 8.030.444 per hectare per year, while the farmer’s income after the transfer functions of the average farm is Rp.14.713.826 per hectare per years or the difference was Rp.683.382 per hectar per year. This difference is due to the difference in prince between rice farming and rubber farming and the difference in the amount of production by individual farmers. The factors that significantly affect the farmer’s decision to convert the farming is the cost of production, the level of income, and the number of family members, while land area and water resources availability, did not signifantly affect the farmers decision to convert farming.
