Abstract
Most sources of fuel used today are fossil fuels. Supplies of fossil fuel sources has declined over time. This is because it is non-renewable. Accompanied by the use of fuel increasing negative impact on the environment in which high levels of air pollution due to emissions result of fossil fuel combustion processes that can cause health problems and damage to the environment. Biodiesel is known as an environmentally friendly fuel because il is produced from vegetable oil and can be updated and exhaust emissions is relatively clean compared to conventional diesel fuel is diesel oil. This study aims to determine the effeet of palm oil biodiesel blending on diesel fuel. The parameters to be analyzed are the characteristics of which include fuel calorific value, flash point, cetane number, viscosity and density, as well as fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of each fuel samples made are: BO (100% diesel oil), B10 (90% diesel oil + 10% biodiesel), B2Q (80% diesel oil +20% biodiesel). B30 (70% diesel oil + 30% biodiesel) and B40 (60% biodiesel diesel oil + 40%). Machine is operated with a constant load of 1 kW and varied the engine rev is 1500 rpm, 1750 rpm and 2000 rpm. Results of the testing showed that fuel characteristics for cetane number, viscosity and density values increased, for the caloric values decreased , while for the flash point value is decreased but it not very significant. As for fuel consumption, ablc to save fuel B20 largest at 22%. For exhaust emission test results, all the samples are made capable of reducing emissions from diesel oil.
